location:Acton, London, UK
Rest here and be lulled gently to sleep by the soft sussuration of the breeze in the trees and the insouciant sound of drunken fools bawling and brawling in the pub next door.

Truth disappears with the telling of it.

Oh, too bad. I wonder what happened to her. We were in contact for a while.

Yes, I agree about the humour in the similarity. Do you think it might be a category that would work? BTW, I tried emailing Tikifish yesterday but the mail was undeliverable.

Well, I kind of liked it for the humor to be found in the similarity. They're both good. I see your point about VdS and it's certainly more clever. Anyhow that's all up to the Mattress Maestros so it's a moot point.

DdM is too similar a name to MdM, don't you think? As the VdM is a non-literary work, perhaps the category title should have a more literary flavour.

SS - frans' comments are hilarious; brevity being the key to humour.

I didn't know you were a huge Durrell fan...I thought you said you didn't read non-fiction. Thanks for the compliment - I usually end up writing those things either late at night when I'm exhausted or first thing in the morning, so I always think they could be ten times better. Anyhow, I actually rather liked "Description de Milo."

Well, thanks, Rebecca. I'm a huge fan of Durrell. No, actually, I'm inspired by your descriptions. As I've said before, maybe we could suggest a new category: I have a better(?) name for it now: *Venus de Scription*. Ah, you may say, but people who don't have English as their first language will be at a disadvantage. Not so: the sole criterion would be whether Adam thinks the description is fab or not. Personally, I love some of the descriptions by the Dutch guy Frans, currently at #43 in the mattress charts.

If you were as p*ssed as a newt.To sleep here it would be a hoot.Tho' you'd wake up next day, in a terrible way, with a rash and lumbago to-boot.

The mattress is dirty and lean. You must keep it in close quarantine, So he sneaks to the slums, And promptly becomes Disorderly, drunk and obscene.

And might I add, a beautiful photograph as well.

A most lyrical, Lawrence Durrell-esque description.
