This is where Liège's 12th century bridge over the river Meuse began: you see the leftover of an arch just above the door behind the skip. The bridge has been destroyed and rebuilt several times: in the 19th century for “progress sake”, blast in 1914 by the Belgian troops to stop the Prussion army, bombed by the allied forces in 1944 to stop the German troops. Since then the bomb crater serves as a waste dump for the civil services of the City. Sometimes, rebuilt a city last several years. Nevertheless, who would dare to complain, it is a nice place for mattresses.
