the matches existing in Europe at that time were made of wood in tiny wooden boxes, matches were red with a yellow head. In the USA they had booklets of matches in any possible colour combination, with matches made out of paper or a very tiny wax-like material. As it was a habit in belgium to light the first allowed sigar or sigaret at teh age of twelve, most of my friends smoked and wanted to show of with matches

Maybe you should write the story of your time there. Even just a short story about the matches, collected then sold.

I went with my parents, they bought a car in new york, an oldsmobile, and we drove through several states, beginning in new york, up north, the canadian border, down again with the farthest state new mexico. I was wrong about the year, as I was 12 it must have been 1961. I earned my first money, 1 dollar in a place called "indian shutters", I guess in Pensylvania, TV was black and white, we stayed in expensive hotels, motels and guest rooms, I remember the taste of pepsi and popcorn, just too much to tell in one comment, but I was young before youth and did not know what life was all about, I collected matches which I sold later, it is just too much to tell...

I was born in that year.
We didn't have a telly though. What was it like?
