It can be a little risky trying to photograph a mattress by the side of the freeway at the site of a busy onramp/offramp interchange. Especially at rush hour. I got this shot on my third pass and decided to let it be.

Waw! Has the streetmattress been arrested? Could you take a picture of it in jail?

although in Rebecca's case the last sentence would read, "Hrbac was driving a 1986 Ford pickup and hit a VW Jetta driven by a streetmattress fanatic, who had slowed to photograph a mattress in the highway."

an important lesson for all of us - don't slow down for a mattress if there's a Salinas man following you??

Christine, thanks for the support, but I'm not so sure they're all that helpless and meek. Just this morning I read in our local paper about a streetmattress that caused an accident - luckily without serious injuries: link to article

As a loyal mattress seeker myself, I have to say that sometimes, Rebecca, we just have to let it go. Sometimes the risk is just too great, even for the best of mattresses. I know it's hard to leave them behind, they're so helpless and meek, but we have to stand back and see the greater picture....for if we are injured, or God forbid killed, while trying to photograph the Great Streetmattress, think of how many mattresses out there will never know our love.
