from a mathematical point of view, I admitt, 4 = 2*2, hence a double dyptich could be a quadriptich, as long as it is poly, like in polite

never was about being right or wrong only a mere suggestion. but while we're at it...
the definition: dip·tych
Etymology: Late Latin diptycha, plural, from Greek, from neuter plural of diptychos folded in two, from di- + ptych? fold
Date: 1622
1 : a 2-leaved hinged tablet folding together to protect writing on its waxed surfaces
2 : a picture or series of pictures (as an altarpiece) painted or carved on two hinged tablets
3 : a work made up of two matching parts
The terms and uses of diptych and triptych have evolved especially in the advent of photography. Diptychs and triptychs are a way for photographic storytelling. They present two or three images which can be from the same session or they can be polar opposites to show opposition or contrasting ideas.

I would say rk is wrong, the 4 pictures are different, but have the same theme; the flemish primitives, like the brothers Van Eyck started a revolution in painting and were centuries ahead of the italian art of painting, they made several polyptychs, and being in a row or not does make a difference

If we're being accurate, I would say rk is correct

There is a word "quadriptych", but I guess the pics would have to be in a row.
