I sleep on a futon too (I live in Tokyo) and trust me, there is nothing better than a freshly aired futon with laundered sheets!
Might seem a little odd, but you don't know what you are missing till you try it... go on... take that posture-pedic outside for a little sunshine and see how you sleep the next night!

What strikes me about this photo is the Japanese ability to make something so mundane as hanging your bedding out to air into an aesthetically pleasing event.

Buying a mattress, $100.
Buying 12 mattresses, $1200.
Capturing this picture for posterity, priceless. Absolutely priceless.

I'm seeing a distinct difference between Japanese mattresses and American mattresses. Unlike their counterparts, these mattresses match, are small and bendable enough to hang out a window, and they don't appear to be tainted by unidentifiable stains. Let me ask you, my fellow Americans, what can WE do to change this obviously deteriorating element of our society?

I've heard about this sort of thing, but have never seen it until now. You gotta keep your mattresses fresh. Fantasitc work!
