Look below the big arrow to notice that the police had setup some sort of roadblock. I didn't know what it was for until my friend told me there were T.V. alerts looking for a kidnapped mattress on a blue truck. That poor 'Tress, I hope someone spots him soon...

Thanks for the background information. The Galveston locals mentioned it a few times in passing. They probably meant that it was the first U.S.A. Mardi Gras. Wherever it has been, I've enjoyed it. I'd love to go to Europe and check out the real origin.

I am sorry to interfere in this matter, but Mardi Gras did not originate in galveston, but in Europe. In our village "vette dinsdag" is part of our lifestyle since my grandparents were youngsters, I suppose they found it in germany, as people in those days did season work, shifting from one country to another each saison. It has to come from "carne vale", probably a roman tradition from the 3th century or so.

Definitely a radar detector, that's how I get around on all my road trips in a timely manner. The fuzz were blocking off the streets for the big old Mardi Gras parade. Did you know Mardi Gras originated in Galveston and New Orleans actually borrowed the idea and made it popular?

Do I detect a radar detector?
And are all those vehicles parked, or stuck in the jam caused by Texas's finest?
