About 200 metres later my car broke down! Towed home by a very nice RAC man.

I don't think so. She doesn't need the money. Are there things named "Mafia...", then?

Does the Queen get a payoff from everything named "Royal...", like the mafia?

And did you know if the AA man did not salute you it meant there was police ahead...

Have I not already got this one....? Looks familiar.

Not necessarily, ND'sM, I believe they continued saluting way into the '6...er '80s!

Rebecca, I meant similar in respect of cap/pac RAC/car, that's all.

Okay, but how is the RAC similar to Pacman? And is a CAR a Catastrophic Automotive Renovator?
Smart Set commented on 09.22.05
Sure I know Pac-man, I was just being silly. The RAC are similar, in that they are a breakdown service for your CAR. The initials stand for Royal Automobile Club, and, along with the AA (Automobile Association) they are the oldest breakdown services in the UK. When I was a kid the AA patrols on their motorbike-'n'-sidecar combos used to salute a member's car if it was displaying the proud yellow and chrome grille badge. How quaint.

I was thinking of the little round guy who eats dots.

A pac man is one who wears his cap backwards e.g. Donavon.
