I had seen this Perfecta Beds matt when I was without my camera, so I went back later when it was almost dark, wondering how to spice up a rather dull and damp scene, only to find this cat in attendance. It was peering into gaps beneath the paving slabs, so I guess it had seen a mouse or rat. Just before spotting the matt earlier, I'd found a gold ring (actually three interlinked rings) lying in the gutter. I thought it looked worthless, but when I cleaned it up I saw that it was hallmarked. The hallmarks are: the maker's name; a pair of scales with 375 between the pans; a 2000 date-mark; a '375' denoting 9-carat gold, and a leopard's head for London (cat's head, appropriately). I will put up a "Found" notice and see if anyone claims it.

Sorry to hear about your Suggelère, wim. No one ever claimed the ring, which I've now mislaid.

the cat looks like it is living a period of alzheimer, but in good health. Did the owener of the ring ever show up? I once worked for people that bought gold and tested it, but 9 carat is rather rare in belgium

This was the second one I looked for but I couldn't find it.

Seven-meow... (I was forgetting this one.)
Smart Set commented on 09.26.05
I hope you managed to wipe it off.

MSN came on my DELL. It's a browser I believe. It's labeled as one in my program list.
Rebecca commented on 09.23.05
Maybe Cassius could use some MSN for his unsightly skin problems.
Rebecca commented on 09.23.05
Now I'm confused again; I didn't think MSN was a browser.

Even unsitely dandruff.
Smart Set commented on 09.23.05
So MSN defeats all problems known to man?
Chaf commented on 09.23.05
I use MSN and have no problems at all.
Rebecca commented on 09.23.05
Very interesting. It's like a whole other language.

Checked the London Assay Office page - very useful. It's odd that I didn't find that site when I was Googling for info on the ring's hallmarks.

Mattress God - fantastic, thanks!!
Smart Set commented on 09.23.05
Not yet, Salinger, but, look, the mattress god was listening and turned it into a link! Cheers!
Salinger commented on 09.23.05
SS - fair comment but have you had a look at the page yet?
Salinger commented on 09.23.05
I've used Opera, it's good. Am using someone else's machine at the moment - stuck with IE.
Rebecca commented on 09.23.05
I enjoy it. You can do a lot of things with your mouse that you can't in IE, and I find that it makes navigating between web pages a lot quicker.
Smart Set commented on 09.23.05
I haven't heard of "opera" but it must be cleverer than IE6.
I know, I know. Thing is, last time I hyperlinked it failed to work so I pasted the full URL instead.
Smart Set commented on 09.23.05
Do you have Firefox? That seems to be all the rage of late.
Rebecca commented on 09.23.05
Not in my browser. It looks fine.
Smart Set commented on 09.23.05
The picture is unchanged, but that URL Salinger put in has increased the width of the description area to unfeasible proportions and pushed half of the pic off the page.
Rebecca commented on 09.23.05
I don't see what you're talking about - it looks unchanged to me.
Salinger commented on 09.23.05
oops. An Act of (streetmattress) God could fix it...
Smart Set commented on 09.23.05
Grrr, Salinger, look what you've done to my picture!

Incase anyone is interested in knowing, since the 1300s the testing of jewels and metals in London has taken place in the home of the Goldsmiths' Company; their Hall. Once tested, they would mark metals with what became known as a hallmark, which originally meant 'marked at Goldsmiths' Hall'. An explanation of hallmarks can be found here (not sure if hyperlinking is enabled at the moment) - link

PS; hopefully the owners of the ring show up, to make them happy

I've just been told that our beloved dog from my parents-in-law has been put asleep because he was to ill...we'll miss him, life can be hard
Rebecca commented on 09.22.05
It's more the cat and the matt, although I'm sure the ring helps.
